Autumn in Edinburgh
Life stresses have been appearing all over the place; I’m stuck living with the uncertainty of the future, being in a kind of stop-gap, while somehow simultaneously missing people and places of the past so much. I don’t know if I really feel settled here yet. However, I have been happy to spend the whole of the autumn, for the first time in about five years, in the city I know in my heart is home.
When it was still a little warmer, these were taken on a woodland walk on a lazy Sunday. It was so beautiful and bright. The river was a failure at Pooh sticks, unfortunately.
Also had a wander round the National Museum of Scotland.
I love these kind of rooftop views. They have a very 101 Dalmations feel to them.
Remember, remember!
The fifth of November,
The Gunpowder, treason and plot;
Finally, Camila (of The Things I Am Crazy For) and I staggered up Calton Hill, along with the entire population of Edinburgh, to see the fireworks on Bonfire Night, which was loads of fun.
So things aren’t too bad; just need to keep going.

Alice, these photos are lovely. They make me miss Edinburgh so much it hurts. Autumn really is the best season to spend at home, eh? I was over the moon to have my first entire Fall in New England last year, after four years of being torn away right as the leaves started to change. I hope things take their natural courses soon enough, and that you continue to enjoy where you are for the time being.
Ahh and I loved the Pooh-sticks reference! Those books were so good.
Sarah!
It’s so lovely to hear from you – sorry for taking a couple days, been back in the bubble for grad.
Around this time last year I wanted to message you to say how much I was enjoying reading Bookshelf Pirate and hearing about your time back home – I think I got as far as typing the start of the message but thought it might be a bit weird because we didn’t know each other too well, and didn’t want to come across as an absolute creep. I have also been following you on Tumblr for ages, and had no idea you knew this was me!!
And thank you – things are ok, it’s definitely been great being home for autumn, I feel the same way! Hope everything is good with you, it’s so nice to be connected like this.
