Afternoon tea at the Old Course

In all my time at St Andrews I’ve unfortunately never before made it to the Old Course hotel for afternoon tea. Probably because it’s £20!

Finally on Sunday, to say goodbye, a close friend and I (horribly underdressed) slobbed along past all the Mercedes and Bentleys in the car park to proper tea, cake and sandwiches.

It was glorious and decadent.

old_course2It was held in a beautiful restaurent at the back of the hotel.

old_course3They do unlimited refills of their tea. I had Vanilla to start with, which smelled amazing, and my friend had Earl Grey.

I really loved the tiny scones with clotted cream and jam. They even had pancakes hidden underneath, what an excellent surprise.

Is this all there is?

I sit here with a tissue shoved up each nostril melting slowly into a puddle of Lemsip, Earl Grey and digestive biscuits. I haven’t eaten anything but porridge or biscuits for 3 days. That’s not that…
