Holidays, 5 miles & Helix
Spring Break has been sprung for a week and it’s going quickly. It’s been a chance to escape, mentally and physically, which I could not be more grateful for. These past couple of months have been filled with such loss and sadness I don’t think I’ve ever been so unhappy. But it’s nice to have a chance to breathe and a change of scene. I’m so aware now of the little time that remains after classes go back.
But on to happier things – I took the photo above out the window today and it epitomises the clear, beautiful skies and sunshine that filled today. A few days ago I managed a personal best and ran 5 miles which is both the furthest distance and longest time I’ve ever run. Whoo hoo. Unfortunately, my socks did not agree with me and around mile 3 I got some pretty painful blisters on the soles of both feet. Deciding to soldier on, despite the agonising burning with every step, I got into what I think is called a groove or something and puttered on home. Ariel, the Little Mermaid, I salute you and your brave perambulation because that was bloody awful.
I did another 5 miles today (more to check this wasn’t a fluke than anything else) despite the blisters recurring a little and coining a new form of ‘wince-running’ still managed it. A few days rest until the next one because my body is screaming in pain.
I watch far too much TV and have just started Helix – an X-Filesy, black oil, double-crossing filled Resident Evil virus-loving type underground saga of contamination and disease. It’s quite good. They also have a tendency to pair super-happy music with horrible exploding bloody gore so that’s always a nice dichotomy.
And finally, here is a lovely little cat I snapped a photo of last week. He seems pretty chill. Why even open your eyes if it’s not necessary?

Hey Alice! Love the cat picture, he definitely looks super chill!
Thanks for the recommendation of Helix too, I hadn’t heard of it but it sounds right up my street! Going to check it out now. Have you seen The Tomorrow People? X
Hey Rach!
Thank you so much for being my first comment – I’m so sorry I just noticed now, life and exams exploded!
It turns out the cat’s name is Elton. This morning on the way to my exam I passed him cleaning his bum slap bang in the middle of the pavement oblivious to everyone, leg in the air. I had been running equations in my head, panicking about everything and it brought me back down to earth haha. Life goes on for cats.
Helix was good – quite unusual. I finished the first season and apparently season 2 starts next year – definitely worth watching. Also have got really into American Horror Story! Would probably recommend that more, actually.
I haven’t seen The Tomorrow People! I just IMdB’d it and see Jacob from Lost is in it… might give it a watch when needing something new 🙂
Hope you’re good!
